NON-STANDARD CANCELLATIONS ON CIP COVERS

Cancellations group under this category are non-uniform, it could be round or oval or have no fix shapes.
Many of these cancellations are not used to cancel stamps, but is canceled alongside to suggest that the piece of mail had either been origination, transit or arrived to that office. On this page, all the examples are canceled on stamps only.
Below are a few examples.

   

  • IPO SHUNTEFU
POSTCARD SEND FROM SHUNTE TO BELGIUM

The 4 cent CIP stamp was canceled by an oval Imperial Post Office Shuntefu and a postman mark of "86". Usually postman mark is canceled away from stamps and in this case quite unusual. Tientsin Bi-lingual transit and French Tientsin for dispatched.

  

  • SHANHAIKWAN BI-LINGUAL
POSTCARD SHANHAIKWAN TO SWEDEN

Another postcard with a 4 cents CIP stamps canceled by a Bi-lingual Shanhaikwan cancel with 'Post, Shanhaikwan' on the top section of the cancel.
An unclear Chinwangtao oval of 23 JAN 03 transits beside the stamp. French Shanghai forwarding alongside.

 

 

  • TAOCHING RAILWAY POST
COVER FROM CHIUJAO TO PEKING

A red band cover send from the office of the Taoching Railway office in Honan Province to Peking franked with 3 cents CIP stamps to the back of the cover canceled with two strokes of the 'Tao to Ching', 'Imperial Post', 'mail car 1' cancel with another stroke to the front of the cover. Sinsiang transits and Peking receiving of 1911 intercalary month third with index 'Cheng' on the date panel. (Taoching Railway is a branch line of the Peking - Hankow Railway. Taoching line is from Taokou to Chinghua.)

 

 

  • NEWCHWANG RAILWAY POST
POSTCARD NEWCHWANG TO ENGLAND

A Yingkow (another name for Newchwang) Railway Hotel postcard sends on a train to England. The two 2 cents CIP stamps was canceled by a Tombstone type cancel with '2' in a circle on the top panel and 'Newchwang Postal Area, train sub-office' which makes the particular cancel a non standard one. Shanhaikwan Lunar of 1906 fourth month eleventh and Shanghai bi-lingual transit to the side of the card.
(Newchwang postal area railway line is a branch of the Peking - Mouken line. the branch is from Koupangtzu to Newchwang.)

 

 

  • KINGYU RAILWAY POST TIENTSIN
POSTCARD ADDRESSED TO TIENTSIN

Postcards send locally from a train to Tientsin. The 1 cent CIP stamp was canceled by a Lunar type cancel, but the top panel have the words 'King-yu, through traffic cart' and thus a non standard lunar cancel, dated Lunar 1910 seventh month seventeen, Tientsin. Also to the back of the card are a Tientsin Bi-lingual and a postman mark.
(King-yu Railway is a branch line of the Peking - Moukden line; King-yu is from Peking to Shanhaikwan.)

 

 

  • TIENTSIN BI-LINGUAL
    INDEX 'C'
POSTCARD FROM TIENTSIN TO FRANCE

A stroke of the Tientsin Bi-lingual cancel similar to a type of Lunar cancel ties the 4 cents CIP stamp to the postcard. Western date of 22 SEP 11 and the alphabet 'E' inside the inner box. Postman mark of '3/5' on the side with Tientsin Bi-lingual and French office in Tientsin transits.
